Pompeo's groundless claims about China have aroused strong condemnation from the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic.
The best way to avoid a growing conflict between the United States and China is through collaboration, not zero-sum competition, according to Rachel Esplin Odell, an international security fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School.
He made the remarks in a signed article titled "Respect History, Look to the Future and Firmly Safeguard and Stabilize China-U.S. Relations," which was published Friday.

"We have India and Bhutan which are the only two left. Maybe we are not able to solve the border issue in a short while. But I don't think this issue should dominate relations between China and India. And I think our Indian friends would share my view," Cui said.
"We urge them to redress mistakes and change course, and work with China to manage differences on the basis of mutual respect, expand cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, and bring China-U.S. relations back to the track of sound and steady development," he said. Enditem
Now, the ball is in the U.S.' court. For the interests of both China and the United States, as well as those of the wider world, China is always ready to work with the U.S. side to boost bilateral ties on the basis of coordination, cooperation and stability, and to maintain global peace and prosperity.
"We are ready to restart the dialogue mechanisms with the U.S. side at any level, in any area and at any time. All issues can be put on the table for discussion," Wang said.
Under the current situation, China proposes removing all disturbances to restart as soon as possible the Code of Conduct consultation, and agreeing as early as possible on a set of rules for maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region, Wang said.
