"They are not trade store workers or visitors. They are important contract workers and will be here for six or more months," he said.
BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday spoke of the need to put in place a clear-cut framework for China-U.S. relations amid the most complex situation since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relations in 1979.
Wang expounded on the clear-cut framework for the relationship.
Data from Chinese customs show that trade between China and Saudi Arabia grew 4 percent annually in the first quarter. According to the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, trade in goods between China and Egypt saw a volume of 5.484 billion dollars during the first five months of this year, up 1.12 percent year-on-year.
The remarks were made in response to a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS) earlier on Monday about the arrests of Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, an instigator of Hong Kong riots, and nine others by Hong Kong police.
Wei stated China's principled position on questions including the South China Sea, Taiwan and the U.S. stigmatization of China, and urged the U.S. side to stop erroneous words and deeds, improve the management and control of maritime risks, avoid taking dangerous moves that may escalate the situation, and safeguard regional peace and stability.
"The erroneous words and moves by the U.S. Administration constituted interference in China's internal affairs. They undermined China's interests and seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations, putting the relationship in a most complex and grave situation since the establishment of diplomatic ties," said Yang.
Wang made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on China-U.S. ties.
"But they should not be seen as barriers for closer relations between us," he said.
"When we say mutual respect, this includes the respect of our culture and history. As developing countries, both China and Fiji share a lot in terms of long history, very old culture and seeking common development. We can learn from each other and we can help each other including cooperation in the field of archives," he said.
China and the United States should also expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, and cement popular support for their relations, said Yang.
